Tell Me

Tell me you’re sober
That you’ll come home tonight
Tell me I don’t have to worry
And everything is getting better

Deep and raw edged
Below my sternum
To right above my navel
Lies a hole

Inside I will place your cardboard reassurances
Next to the photo of the life I’d thought you’d have

Of course you’re clean
Tell me not to worry
as you slip my please be safe in your back pocket on the way out the door
I believe you
